“The Keeping of Bees” is a short informative dance film that brings light to one of the effects human behavior and climate change has had on a very important species; bees. It is estimated 1/3 of every bite of food is a product of bee pollination. Utilizing audio from NPR's Weekend Edition with Scott Simon, we learn through Frank Aletru the many struggles beekeepers are facing today by combining dance, humor, and education.

words from the filmmaker

As someone who cares deeply for the well-being of our environment and all eco-systems great and small; I wanted to give voice to charming creatures who are defenseless against environmentally destructive agricultural practices and are instrumental in our own survival as humans; bees. It is my hope that through laughter, the audience will feel inspired to take action to protect bees and other keystone species by planting native flowers, avoiding pesticides, minimizing mowing and perhaps even take up beekeeping themselves. Small actions can make a big impact.

why we love this film

As innovative of a dance film as we've ever seen. Funny, clever, captivating, and of course, informative. Save the bees!
