In April of 2023, the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company performs in Hong Kong for one evening only. During their stay, these young artists are faced with a tight rehearsal schedule, various community engagement events with the Hong Kong Ballet, and last minute casting changes due to a number of dancers being under the weather. Nevertheless, as some of the most promising and talented dancers in their age group in the world, these challenges are a part of their training and the show will go on no matter what.

“Kindred Spirits” is my first mid-length tour documentary and it came with many beautiful moments as well as challenges. I wanted to make a film that demystified dance and showed the real moments on and off stage. On stage, dancers work hard to make things look effortless whereas sometimes the energy and preparation behind-the-scenes can be tough. Following the ABT Studio Company was about showing the artistry and incredible skill that these young dancers bring to their everyday routine as well as the unexpected circumstances that test their
resilience. From all corners of the world, they create a young and tightly knit community of dancers that shines in front of an audience.
