dir Ryan Renshaw
Everybody's bubble must eventually burst.
words from the filmmaker
Bubblegum was inspired by seeing a woman dancing at a traffic lights intersection where she was waiting to cross. There was no music - no headphones. But she was clearly having a wonderful time. I took a deep dive on youtube watching the many dozens of video of crack addicts dancing in public. Choreographer Jack Lister (Australiasian Dance Collective) and dance Pol Andres Thio (Queensland Ballet) used these videos as another form of stimulus to create their work in the film.
why we love this film
Dance filmmaking has never been so cool. "Bubblegum" is gritty, sexy, and funny all at the same time. Wonderful fusion of dance and storytelling.
